Who we are

Careers

We hire operators, engineers, and strategists who have actually moved a number. The work is hard, the standard is high, and the outcomes are measurable. If that sounds like a fit, read on.

Why work here

Work that lands. Numbers that move. People who have done it before.

Most agentic AI work today is demos. Our work goes into production at Fortune 500 banks, insurers, and industrial firms — and stays there. You will ship code that runs continuously against a real P&L, with a human team accountable for the outcome and a board reviewing it every quarter.

We are deliberately small and deliberately senior. Eighty-two full-time team members. Average eleven years of experience. No utilization targets, no consulting ladder, no powerpoint factory. Every person on the team owns outcomes.

Open roles

We are hiring across engineering, operations, strategy, and research

These are the roles open right now. If none of them are an exact fit but you think we should know you, see the "How to apply" section below — we read every general application.

Senior Agent Engineer

Engineering
New York / Remote (US) Full-time

Design and ship production agent systems for Fortune 500 operations workflows. You'll own architecture for one of our flagship engagements end-to-end.

Staff Platform Engineer

Engineering
New York Full-time

Build the orchestration substrate every client engagement runs on. Distributed systems work in TypeScript and Rust, with a strong reliability focus.

Operations Lead, Financial Services

Managed Operations
New York / London Full-time

Run the live ops practice for our banking and insurance clients. You've closed a month, hit an SLA, and owned a P&L before. The agentic AI part is learnable.

Engagement Manager

Strategy
Chicago / Remote (US) Full-time

Own the commercial relationship and outcomes for two to three flagship engagements. Translate operating problems into shippable architectures with the engineering team.

Research Engineer, Agent Reliability

Research
Remote (US/EU) Full-time

Work directly with our VP of AI Research on evaluation methodology, tool-use reliability, and the systems that keep production agents honest.

Governance & Compliance Lead

Governance
Washington, DC / Remote (US) Full-time

Build and own the compliance frameworks our regulated-industry deployments depend on. Background in financial services or healthcare regulation strongly preferred.

Forward-Deployed Engineer

Engineering
Remote (US) — heavy travel Full-time

Embed on-site with clients during the first 90 days of an engagement. Half operator, half engineer — you live in the workflow before you automate it.

Operations Analyst (Early Career)

Managed Operations
New York Full-time

Two-year rotational program across our managed ops practice. We hire one analyst class per year. Half of the role is operations, half is agent design.

"I came from a Big Four shop where I built decks. Here I build systems that close a month. The work is harder. It's also why I'm staying."

— Senior Engagement Manager, joined 2023

Benefits

The package is built for people who plan to stay

We do not optimize for headcount or churn. We optimize for senior people who do their best work here for a decade. The benefits reflect that.

Compensation that pays for the work

Top-of-market base, meaningful equity in the firm, and an outcomes-based bonus tied to client results — not utilization.

Comprehensive health & dental

Full medical, dental, vision, and mental health coverage for you and your family. We pay 100% of premiums.

Real, untracked time off

A four-week minimum we actually enforce, plus the firm closes for one full week each summer and winter. No carryover games.

Learning budget

$5,000 per year for books, courses, conferences, and anything else that sharpens your craft. No approvals required under that ceiling.

20-week parental leave

Twenty weeks fully paid for any new parent, plus a phased return runway and on-ramp coaching for your first quarter back.

Hybrid by default

Most roles are hybrid out of New York, Chicago, or London with three flexible in-office days. Some are fully remote — we say so on the role.

401(k) with 6% match

Six-percent dollar-for-dollar match, vested immediately. No cliffs, no waiting periods.

Sabbatical at year five

Six fully paid weeks every five years, on top of regular PTO. We expect you to actually take it.

How to apply

A short, written-first process — no leetcode, no panel interviews

Step 01

Application & writing sample

Email careers@apisonhooks.com with the role you're applying for, a short note (under 300 words) on why this firm, and a writing sample of your choice — a memo, a postmortem, a published essay.

Step 02

Initial conversation (45 min)

One conversation with the practice lead for the role. Mostly your questions; some of ours. We are looking for clarity of thought, not memorized answers.

Step 03

Paid work sample (1 day)

An anonymized, real client problem. We pay $1,500 for the day regardless of outcome. You work alongside the team you'd actually be joining.

Step 04

Decision in five business days

We commit to a yes-or-no within five business days of the work sample. No ghosting, no eight-week silence. If the answer is no, we tell you why.

A note on general applications

If none of the open roles fit but you think we should know about you, send the same package — note, writing sample, role you'd want to grow into — to careers@apisonhooks.com. We read every one and reply within two weeks.

Not sure if a role here fits? Talk to us first.

A 20-minute call with a practice lead is the fastest way to find out. No commitment, no recruiter funnel.
